Yes It's true ranes legendary mixer is getting a new model... I talked to the Rane rep at the Remix Hotel in NYC in June 2004... They can no longer get the Pots for the mixer so their going to be getting a new model check this out ....The MP2016A which will have a shorter throw pots details to follow...

That's o.k.

They usaually don't discontinue their products quickly because they know each time they do come out with a new model, it's a HIT. They don't throw anything out there like some other manufactures do. They wait.

Can't wait to see what they come up with next. :D

Let us know when you get it.

I am curious if the sound out-put quality has been upgraded.

That has been the only complaint I have heard about previous generation.

I had one of the first ones of the first generation and loved it except the cueing. I didn't notice the output being weak but maybe so. I will let ya know though.

Man, it looks sweet... Can't wait to come across one in the clubs in the near future. As for my home system, Rane's got to morph it into one piece for me to consider it. As for it's sound quality... Come on guys, it's not a Bozak :O) But if it's like the 2016, it's comparable to a Urei. What I have yet to hear (or feel) is the xone V6... Looks great, very intriguing, way to hefty price tag. Anyone get to work w/one yet? Or even hear it's output in a large venue?

Redd,

I've worked with the V6. It has a more British sound than a Bozak...little less warmth to it. I'm really into that sort of sound though so it was music to my ears. The build quality is typical A&H. The knobs are a tad bit shallower than what I prefer, though...little bit difficult to grip when compared to a Bozak, Urei, or Rane. The high pass filters are rather nice to mix with and give you that extra little umph when you need it. That valves on the line input channels really help level out the mix between vinyl and digital, kind of brings it all together. It's definitely a nice unit to work with.

DJ_JAMS,

I've heard you are the proud owner of a pair. Is that correct?

If so, give us a review.... ;)

I love my MP 2016a / XP 2016a combo. Just as a i did the first generation of them only the cueing issue I had is solved. I have not noticed a low output at all. The faders are designed to have to turn further to kick in hard but thats ok I like that, its a lot easier to do those long mixes. I did however replace the crossfader in the XP unit to have a 45mm crossfader instead of a 60mm for the quick mixes.

"faders..turn further" - just to be sure I am not confused here (what am I saying....lol) you do mean the turn of the channel knobs, right?

Wow, you like the 45mm better? Nevermind....crossfader, not channel fader...I like the 60mm on the channel's

Yep on the channels. If I am going to be playing a lot of hip hop then I like the shorter faders but otherwise long ones for me.

I have the old version sorry guys the $940.00 price tag was just too much to not look at. It is in great shape and from what I've been told I will only miss the split cue..

Here's my review of the Rane MP 2016 and XP 2016:

First off compared to the Disco Mixers from the 70's and 80's ( Bozak and the Urei) I used the Rane will keep up with the nightly beatings a great mixer takes. First thing I noticed when I plugged my headphones into the jack was **** I better get a better pair of head phones or the cue will blow the speakers right out of them. so off to the phone I ran to call Jason at *** PRO DJ www.********.com and ordered a new pair of Pioneer 1000 headphones.. call him for the best prices.

Second the rotory faders are tighter than that of a Urei or a Bozak as I remember. The sound is crisp and clean and has "O" Noise in my system at the present time. The hardest part for me was getting the headphones and master to play when I wanted it to.. Usually the peak meters are constant well these are changable to the cue or the program which ever you prefer.

One thing I do like is the signal overload Led lights on the gains (sort of like a prefader led) for recording and that you can assign any channel to any channel if needed ( if I have denon 1 plugged into 1, I can play it on any open rotory fader ..the feq. cuts are great and will actually turn off the music 8) 8)

Hmm, what happens to those of us who have the original version as far as support, parts??? Not to much of a big deal considering I've had mine for quite some time and all I've had to do is lube the pots as they tend to get scratchy @ times, that Pro Gold/ Calilube stuff works wonders.. What else does it have to offer, other than split cue? the split cue thing is not such a big upgrade when come to think of it alot off us do our mixing by ear (self taught). Headphones & A decent monitor thats all u need! I can't see any reason on buying this unit if you have the original...Just my two cents

Parts are all the same the change in it is the split cue. Even the original XP 2016 with work with the MP 2016a mixer and vicea versa.

Pot's are different, I believe there using cheaper ones, so I was told. I could be wrong. If it was'nt for the fact that I got use to using there seperate EQ module I would probably sell my unit and opt for this http://ureidj.com/

I'm a dealer and have never been made aware of the pots being different. I have owned both the original and the a model and I currently have the a model and have not noticed a difference at all.

Brandon,

Jams and I were told by a Rane rep that the pots are different because the original pots are no longer being produced. I can't remember the numbers but I think it something about the throw of the pots...

Jams may remember more about what he said.

Wow I am glad they let their dealers know then. Still I haven't noticed a difference in them though.

Since I haven't played on it I don't know if there is a noticable difference..

I really wish I would make better mental notes when told info like this... lol...

Jams if you are out there please tell us what you can remember from the Rane rep (Jams and I were stand there together when we were told and our jaw kinda dropped when he said that)
